eat less meat

Morality

Pigs, cows, chickens and other farm animals are sentient beings who are able to experience suffering and pain.¹ Animal farms have the most horrible conditions you could imagine. They are force-bred and suffer tremendously from birth to death.²

If you are not okay with kicking and torturing a dog, how are you okay with that? Because every time you eat meat you are most likely contributing to that business (for example, in US 99% of livestock is factory-farmed³).

Environment

Around 25-30% from emissions comes from our food,⁴ of which 57% is from animal-based foods.⁵ You can nitpick about the numbers but the fact is, our planet is running out of resources, and growing meat requires a lot of resources.

It's not necessary

Eating meat isn't necessary for survival. There are some nutrients (like B12) which you should get somewhere but can't really get from plant-based diet.⁶ But you can get them from eating some supplements (you need to eat some supplements even if you do eat meat, to stay in ideal health).

It's easy

I'm not a vegan myself but I have drastically reduced my consumption of meat and other animal-based foods. It's actually pretty easy; instead of buying meat at the supermarket, buy some vegan protein. Instead of choosing a steak at the restaurant, choose some vegan food. I've found that vegan foods are actually pretty good.

If you're reading this article, you probably live somewhere where you have access to vegan food, making it an option for you. So if eating meat is bad for the animals, bad for the planet, not necessary for us, and avoiding it is as easy as choosing to not buy it, why would we to eat meat? Is the pleasure we get from it worth it? For me personally, not really.

Side benefits

This is probably just a me-thing, but I kinda like restrictions. Less options makes it easier to choose what I eat, lol. I'm also lazy so making vegan food is often easier and faster since you can often skip the step of cooking the meat.
